Vol. 86 How to give life to a space with neutral colors?

Vol. 86 ¿Cómo darle vida a un espacio con colores neutros?

Neutral colors are generally the safest option when decorating or designing interiors and of course, we can't blame them, since they are easy to combine and make a space look purer or cleaner.

However, it often happens that a color or texture enhancement is needed to give more life and contrast to the site.

If you are one of those who are a little afraid of adding color, but want to know how to achieve it, you are in the right place, because today we will talk about it.

Before starting to remodel, you should always reflect each person's personality and the way in which we express ourselves through the creation of environments. Therefore, it is of utmost importance to add color, since these are a reflection of how we are and represent us.

Next, we are going to mention a series of steps to learn how to use color.

1. Inspiration

Look in magazines, books or digital platforms for a color palette that you like and stick to it to build elements, be it for a wall, armchair, a rug or cushion.

You can use different color palettes for different rooms, as long as they integrate well and have similar tones to avoid them competing with each other.

2. Complementary colors

Once you select a palette, you can add the opposite color of the color wheel to provide contrast and accent in a place. For example, if you have an object with some blue, use orange, if there is green, include red or magenta, purple with yellow, etc.

These types of accents must be used subtly to avoid excess visual attention. As its name says, it is extremely important that they complement each other and be consistent with the rest of the colors.

Having chosen the main color or complementary colors, you can now add neutral colors that coordinate.

We recommend that the color palette be approximately between 5 to 7 colors to avoid maximalism.

3. Textures

Play with different possible textures to give dynamism to a certain area. It may be that objects with structured fabrics such as armchairs or sofas, if cushions or details with different structures such as twills, jacquard, thread thicknesses and even some prints are incorporated, will create energetic areas.

4. Accessories

Obtaining decorative pieces such as lamps, paintings, cushions, table runners, among others, can help give life to a space, because you can play with materials, textures, finishes or colors, causing greater aesthetics.

Take risks! That's what designing and decorating is all about. Don't take everything too seriously and explore new opportunities.
